"Let me start by saying that our recent house renovation project with Riverlight Builders was an extraordinary experience. But, let me back up a bit. We had lived in our small, sweet, old house for almost six years when the minuscule kitchen, lack of storage space and up and down stairs to the tiny master bedroom finally got the better of us. The kitchen was so small that much of our pantry items and cooking equipment lived in our basement, and clothing storage was so inadequate that most of my husbands clothing was in a dining room closet.
We had heard good things about Riverlight Builders from friends and set up our first meeting during which Deborah Brien, the design half of the team asked us to identify our goals for the project. Those goals, once established, guided the entire process. With Deb's design skills, attention to detail and attention to budget she transformed those goals into reality. Along the way were many choices and she was superb at walking us through all of them to a choice that satisfied both aesthetics and budget. There were no budget surprises and when there were budget over-runs it was because we decided to upgrade certain things. But, the choice was ours. I must add, too, that the entire budgeting process was transparent, with no surprises and, therefore, we always knew where things stood in terms of costs.
Chris Brien, Deb's husband, is the builder half of the team of Riverlight Builders. And, what a team! They worked hand in glove and one or the other was always on top of things. Ours is an old house in which floors are not level, corners are not square, and walls curve. No obstacle was ever viewed as a "problem" but rather as a challenge for which Chris would find an answer, and he did every time. His attention to detail and creativity in problem solving was a perfect fit to Deb's sense of design. I might add that that during the entire renovation project we were living in the work site. Chris and his team were extraordinarily sensitive to that. At the end of every day, the work site was, swept, vacuumed and left as clean as possible, ready for the next day.
My husband and I love to cook, to entertain and to have our children and grandchildren visit. We now have a fabulous open kitchen which, thanks to Deb's design, works perfectly and, with the loss of one wall has, opened our entire first floor. Our wonderful first floor master suite with closet/dressing room and laundry facilities means no longer up and down the stairs. And, Deb even designed a small, but gorgeous bathroom from the former dining room closet that had housed my husband's clothing.
In the past, my husband and I built two houses, one in New York and the other in Vermont and neither experience comes close to the satisfaction that we found with Deb and Chris Brien, Riverlight Builders."

I hired Chris and his team to renovate a bathroom and to replace some windows in my house. I am absolutely thrilled with the results. The bathroom needed custom work done because of the odd shape of the room and they exceeded my expectations with their work. Everything was kept within the budget except for when the unexpected arose. I had wood rot and Chris walked me through what was discovered, made recommendations on a repair, and gave me an accurate budget of costs associated with the repair. All around a great guy - and team - to work with. I highly recommend!
