Though we often work with our client's architects and designers, Riverlight Builders also offers in-house design services. Our design and build process is a careful collaboration between owners Chris and Deborah Brien, viewed from the perspectives of design, feasibility, construction, client goals and budget.
Deborah studied Art History and Architecture at the University of Vermont and has been designing residential buildings and spaces since 1991. While living on Nantucket island she worked for Milton Rowland and Associates, reknowned for their innovative residential designs and expertise in Nantucket's historic architecture, For a number of years Deborah also worked with the Manhattan firm Michael M. Dwyer, Architect, working on large-scale projects in the Hamptons, Nantucket and Manhattan. Most recently she completed work on the major renovation of a three story penthouse in New York's historic San Remo building and she has collaborated with top interior design firms such as Bunny Williams Interior Design and William Hodgins, Inc. Deborah has a deep admiration and respect for historic architecture and is the proud owner of what is likely the oldest house in Norwich, VT believed to have been built in 1766. Her design approach is steeped in classical roots yet adapted to modern lifestyles. Through the creative use of space and natural light and thoughtful attention to detail, they blend a timeless aesthetic appeal in a highly functional format.
Deborah is a member of the American Association of Architects (AIA) and the National Kitchen and Bath Association (NKBA).
